What is NGO-MG’s mission statement?

The NGO Major Group’s activities are centered around an inclusive process to support and advance the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in accordance with recognized human rights standards and international law. We believe that the best way to do so is by creating a platform for all non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to share their input in the processes of decision making and implementation. Thus, the NGO Major Group is tasked with facilitating the participation and enhancing the engagement of NGOs in the processes directly and indirectly related to the High-Level Political Forum. When possible, we also work to organize positions on behalf of the members to be delivered in other United Nations spaces. We establish and strengthen NGO engagement through three main platforms: (1) by submitting to the UN a paper on the issues and goals under review at the upcoming HLPF, (2) by enabling NGO representatives to deliver statements and interventions during formal events and side events, and (3) by working with UN’s Department of Economic and Social Affairs to provide funding and grounds passes to allow NGOs to attend HLPF.

How can I participate at the HLPF?

As an attendee from an organization with ECOSOC or CSD status
Representatives from Major Groups and other Stakeholders interested in participating in the HLPF must be affiliated with properly accredited non-governmental organizations, in accordance with ECOSOC resolution 1996/31 governing the consultative relationship between the United Nations and non-governmental organizations. Those NGOs having consultative status with ECOSOC and those on the CSD Roster are eligible to register their representatives online.

As an attendee from an organization without ECOSOC accreditation, the Major Groups and other Stakeholders can register through Major Group or other Stakeholders constituency. Each MGoS will receive 50 additional passes for the HLPF to enable representatives of non-accredited organizations to join.
